A guide to buying getMY small business insurance online

We've tried to make buying insurance online as easy as possible - and to make it even easier we've put together this guide to help you sail through the process. It's primarily about buying online but it should also help when buying direct from our call centre.

Things to know before you start

• Our policies cover a wide range of businesses but because of the complexity of some types of business, you may only be able to get a quote after speaking to one of our sales associates.
• Get a quote online and if your business is one that requires you to speak to us directly you will get a message to that effect, plus your details will be forwarded to our call centre.
• If you have multiple business addresses e.g. a chain of shops or two or more office locations you will also need to speak to a sales associate. Use the Call Me Back Button to book a convenient time or call  0800 294 1348
• We only cover UK businesses, but we are sorry we can't currently insure Northern Ireland based business.
• Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

Useful things to have to hand before you start

• Your current or last year's policy will be useful
• Accounts for turnover and fee income details
• Details of any business insurance claims you have made in the last 3 years
• A credit or debit card - we accept JCB, Maestro, MasterCard, Visa and Visa Delta. Please note if you wish to pay by Maestro you will need to complete your purchase through our call centre.

Information you'll be asked to provide

You may be asked for some or all of the following and it may help you to have the information available before you start. However, we'll only ask for it if we need to, and detailed help is available on screen, so don't worry if you don't have all of this to hand.

• How many employees you have and how much your wage roll is
• Rebuilding costs for your premises if you are going to insure your buildings
• Value of stock
• Value of contents, fixtures and fittings
• Value of electronic and computer equipment including tills and EPOS equipment if you are a retailer

You must be able to say yes to…

• You have the authority to arrange insurance on behalf of your business
• The occupation/business activity stated in the final quote matches your occupation/business activity
• You, your company or partners have never been declined insurance, had insurance refused or terms applied
• You, your company or partners have never been declared bankrupt or insolvent
• Machinery and equipment used in connection with the business is in a good state of repair and regularly maintained in accordance with manufacturer's instructions
• No secondary business is carried on at the business address that will require to be insured under this policy
• You, your company or partners have no criminal convictions
• Having read and agreed our terms and conditions

Using our site

• There is individual help against certain topics, just click on the help icon
• All questions marked * are mandatory.
• When completing figures please don't use £ signs or commas.
• You can stop and come back as often as you like - provided you use the 'save' button to save your quote. We will send an email with a link for you to use to return to your saved details.
• There is a session timeout for security purposes on the site so saving pages as you go is a good idea, just click the 'save' button at the bottom of the page.
• Once you have a quote, you can save it and come back to it at any time, using the link in the email we will send you. Click the 'save' button at the bottom of the page. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date created
• Once you've got a quote you can go back and change the details you've given us, or the choices you've made, to get a new quote.
• We make some assumptions about cover and use standard levels of covers to get you to a quote as quickly as possible - we will tell you what these standard covers are and you can amend them.
• You will be provided with a link to an appropriate summary of cover which you should read - you can view and download it before you start to save time.
