Computer breakdown cover

Whether it’s for accounts or product design, booking hotel rooms or process management, most businesses rely on computers. While your contents insurance may cover you if your computers are stolen, it won’t cover you if your systems break down. Computer breakdown insurance covers your business against the costs of computer breakdown and, perhaps more importantly, loss of your data.

Who needs computer breakdown cover?

If your computer systems break down, could you carry on trading? How much would it cost to get a new system configured? If you carry on trading without a stock control or an accounts system, how much would it cost to bring a new system up-to-date?

If computer systems are a fundamental part of your business – whether you use them for business administration or they are the tools of your trade – you should consider computer breakdown cover.

Some examples

You run a surveyors office. The computer running your accounts system breaks down and you have to keep manual records for the three days it takes to get the system up and running again. You then have to pay your staff overtime to bring the new system up to date.

You run a book packaging business from home. Your computer system breaks down and you have to buy a new system. You have to hire an expert to set up a new system for you and lose a day’s worth of work that was on your old machine.
