What type of Insurance policy is this?

getMY licencecover is an insurance designed to provide a benefit to help meet your costs when you can't drive through accident or sickness (i.e. disability) or disqualification due to the "totting up" of speeding offences. It provides a monthly benefit to support you at a time when you need help to maintain your lifestyle, livelihood and family commitments.

What are the types of covers I can choose from?

You can choose the most suitable cover type from the list below.

Am I eligible?

getMY licencecover is available if you are aged 21 or over and under 70, permanently resident in the UK and (for Disqualification Cover only) the holder of a full UK driving licence and have been so continuously for the last 2 years.

Disqualification Cover is available if on the start date of the policy you have on your Driving Licence:

  • no penalty point offences or
  • a single 3 penalty point offence or
  • two separate 3 penalty point offences only

arising solely from the following endorsement reference categories; Speed Limits (SP), Pedestrian Crossings (PC), Traffic Direction and Signs (TS), including offences recorded after the Start Date as a result of any incident committed before the Start Date; and have not been Disqualified from driving at any time in the year prior to the start date

I have a medical condition, can I have cover?

If you suffer from a medical condition, you can still be covered but terms may apply. For further details please refer to "Are there any significant exclusions?" of the KeyFacts and the "What is not covered" section of the policy document.

What is the duration of this policy?

Cover operates on an annual basis and continues for each year that you pay your premium. Cover can continue until you reach the age of 70, or you or the insurer cancel.

How do I notify you of a claim that I wish to make?

What would I need to provide to make a Disability claim?

The start date of your claim will be the date your doctor has certified you as unfit to drive a Motor Vehicle. You will be required to provide proof from your Doctor that you are unfit to drive on a monthly basis. If you voluntarily surrender your Driving Licence due to Disability, You will be required to provide us with a copy of your notification to the DVLA. You will be required to provide proof from your doctor that you remain unfit to drive on a monthly basis. If the DVLA revokes your licence due to Disability, you will be required to provide us with a copy of the DVLA's notification to you.

What would I need to provide to make a Disqualification claim?

The start date of your claim will be the date that has been stated in the Notice of Disqualification letter issued by the DVLA.

You will be required to provide us with:

  • The original of your Notice of Disqualification
  • A copy of your certificate of motor insurance
  • A copy of your Driving Licence
  • Proof of full-time residency in the UK

Do I need to provide alternative transportation bills and receipts to obtain the monthly benefit payment?

No. We will not ask you to submit bills or receipts; once your claim has been approved by our claims team we will make regular monthly benefit payments to your bank account directly.

How quickly can I obtain cover?

Once you have purchased getMY licencecover insurance via the website, your cover starts immediately following acceptance of your credit or debit card payment.

How can I pay the premium?

Your premium is payable either monthly by direct debit (we will not charge any interest) or annually by a single Credit or Debit card payment. If you pay by direct debit, please note that as the policy is administered by FirstAssist Insurance Services Limited, that this is the name that will appear on your bank statement.

If I select a policy for myself and my spouse/partner, will the benefit amount be shared between us?

No, both you and your spouse/partner will receive individual policy documents and cover schedules specifying your individual benefit limits. Therefore you both will be entitled to claim up to the maximum benefit amount specified in the cover schedule.

Can I cancel this Policy once I have purchased it?

If you are not happy with your cover, you may within 14 days of receipt, return it for cancellation, and provided you have not claimed, any premium you have paid will be returned to you. Both you and the insurer can cancel in other circumstances, full details are contained in the policy document.

Do you cover motor cyclists?

No, we only cover Motor cars and vans.
